in clean 2 to 3 foot surf

Hobgood, surfing on an
unconventional quad-fin board with a futuristic V-tail setup,
opened up strong on his forehand with a blend of progressive
fin-free maneuvers and blistering carves.
“I’ve got this great board under my feet that I’ve only ridden
once before and it’s gone unbelievable in these conditions,”
Hobgood said. “I don’t really know what to call it, but my
shaper (Bill Johnson) may have a better idea. The conditions
at Lowers this week were not the ideal south swell setup that
we would have preferred, but I think my equipment really made
a difference.” ...
Damien Hobgood Takes Top
Honors at Billabong Pro Tahiti
TEAHUPOO, Tahiti
(Wednesday, May 16th, 2007) - Damien Hobgood (USA) has been
crowned the 2007 Billabong Pro Tahiti Champion after beating
Foster’s ASP World Tour ratings leader Mick Fanning (AUS) in a
last-minute victory in 5 to 7 foot (1.5 - 2 metre) surf at
Teahupoo.
Hobgood
bowed out of the 2005 Billabong Pro Tahiti Final halfway
through after dislocating his shoulder - a circumstance which
made his win today that much more meaningful.
"It’s insane - I was stoked to have another chance at it,"
Hobgood said. "I feel that things happen for a reason and I
did my best out here in 2005 and came up short. I replayed
that wave in my mind a hundred times going, ’I should have
tried to stay in that barrel and not come out doggy-door,’ but
I feel like I can put that out of my mind now."
Bill Johnson’s New
“Stealth Tail” has the surfing world completely amazed. The
Stealth tail quad blasted into the surf scene with CJ Hobgood
winning a 4 star WQS event at Trestles just weeks ago. Dusty
Payne said “it’s the best small wave board I have ever
ridden.”
Bill Johnson has a patent pending on his new Stealth tail, and
is now available for custom orders and soon to be in stock at
surf shops throughout the US.
